DOKK1

DOKK1 is a modern, community-focused library that values innovation and user involvement. The library hosts just under a hundred events a month, but struggles with youth participation.

DOKK1’s transformer and Head of Innovation & User Involvement guided us towards a real problem worth solving. The challenge: create a digital solution highlighting DOKK1’s recurring events with the aim of increasing youth attendance.

View Project
User Research

We conducted user tests of DOKK1’s current website to uncover problems with their current solution, in-person surveys regarding events at the library, as well as a targeted survey to Danish youth about their views and desires regarding possible solutions.

From this we could generate persona segmentation and create a solution based on an understanding of our users’ behaviours and attitudes.

For a month-long project of this scope, organization within our group was vital. We relied on communication & time-management tools like Slack, Trello, Toggl, and Github to collaborate throughout.

Problem Analysis

Brainstorming was a great problem-solving tool. A general brainstorm encouraged wild, even absurd ideas. A focused brainstorm narrowed in on our topic: events. Finally, a reverse brainstorm helped us find solutions based on negative problem statements. We took key ideas and turned them into positive actions.

Asking ourselves “how might we” questions helped us explore beyond the obvious solutions.

Interface Design

We expanded on DOKK1’s physical space and existing style guide when setting our design guidelines. It was important to fit in the DOKK1 ecosystem, yet add elements appealing to our target audience.

Sketching, Wireframing
& Prototyping

We sketched from a mobile-first perspective, combining ideas from every team member before accepting one sketch as a finalized idea. Wireframes and mock-ups were created in Figma before the development stage began.

Usability Testing

We went through several iterations of our prototype thanks to feedback from user testing. Hearing users think aloud as they navigate through a product shows us which parts of our site are confusing or not working as intended.

Think-aloud testing helps uncover confusing points of interaction for the user.
